  A Child’s Dream Campaign

is a scholarship program launched last August 2004 that aims to support the education of AKCDF preschool indigent children and assist in the continuing education of AKCDF former graduates who are enrolled in elementary, high school, and non-formal vocational courses. Through fundraising concerts, study tours, bazaars, video documentary production and sale of Mr. Paul Galang’s music CDs, the program is able to help address the “hidden cost” of education (transportation, food, school supplies, etc.) of these children, which is mainly the cause as to why their families could not afford to send them to school.

Under A Child’s Dream Campaign is the Jam for the Rights of Children, a music festival organized by AKCDF. It aims to encourage children and youth to actively take part in the advocacy of promoting and protecting their rights and welfare through music and arts. AKCDF believes that the best front liners of forwarding such advocacy must be the children and youth themselves and that they have the capacity to significantly participate in such action.

Specifically, the project aims to fulfill the following objectives:

1. Organize songwriting workshops, music festivals and songwriting competitions that would encourage the active participation of children and youth to express their views on the importance of respecting their rights and welfare through the medium of music.

2. Create community-based children and youth cultural activity centers that would serve as venue for cultural development activities and social education on the rights and welfare of children and youth in various communities.

3. Produce CDs and cassettes of songs on children’s rights that can be used as educational materials for the popularization of the rights and welfare of children.

4. Unite and develop initiatives of different children and youth care, welfare and development centers on the advocacy of children’s rights through music and arts.

The Jam for the Rights of Children Music Festival will be implemented in cooperation with various sectors of society and is seen to be the most effective way in popularizing issues of children and youth concerns.
